This coming Wednesday, September 25th, is my and my husband’s 20th wedding anniversary. The sonnet below could be seen as a celebration of our long love.
We took a hike together by the river this past month.
Sonnet 2.XII - A Hike Along the River
We get a moment away together – at my request – and leave the kids at home. We go for a hike at Yellow River on trails that skirt the water, smell of loam. I know these woods, so I lead, set the tone with play, wonder, and curiosity. In long denim skirt and hiking Chacos I sashay my way through my favorite trees. I wonder about their identity, and take pictures of this and that and him. He tells me a proverb of how, when deep, a river is calm, but clanging when thin. I swoon because he’s touched my soul with words. We hike on, hushed, listen to songs of birds.

Belated congratulations on 'long love'.
I read your latest sonnet before this one. I'm fascinated by long love co-existing with loneliness. And the photo. so many questions. :-)
Happy milestone anniversary!!
