and BTS of sonnet 2.VII and a heads up about the June paid subscriber print
(I sent this post, but realized I made a mistake that I did not like, and so I fixed it, and am re-publishing and sending it again. Sorry for the repeat and taxing your inbox.)
Sometime in the last school year, I began reading through the gospels again. This time around, I’ve been reading through using my KJV journal Bible, and the Dwell app. In the app, I’ve been following the Gospel Harmony plan, which puts the four gospel books side-by-side each other, in chronological order. It’s been very enlightening to read the gospel books this way, and I’ve been able to think about Christ, his personality and his work, in a more focused way.
But, also sometime in the last school year, I’ve stopped reading the gospels and have been extremely busy and focused on trying to get through the school year and my ESOL endorsement program. Often times, the only time I had to spend with God was somewhat briefly, early in the mornings, praying through the sufficient prayer that Christ taught his disciples to pray, and then reading a devotion from Jordan Raynor’s The Word Before Work. And, while these things were sufficient, I confess, I’ve missed reading through the gospels.
The school year is over, and I’ve finished my ESOL endorsement, and have been able to spend time again in the gospels, and it’s been good. It’s like seeing the clouds afresh after a long time of not paying attention to them. Reading the gospels has been like receiving kisses in my soul. It’s been energy and life and hope and beauty.
Sonnet 2.VII - BTS
Last week, I got to spend a bit of time at the ocean beach with my oldest daughter. She will be going to college in the Fall at a university that is about an hour away from there. The university is about three and a half hours away from our home, and so I have made the legitimate excuse - when we went for a college visit in the spring, and when she went for orientation last week - that it’s too much for me to drive there and back in one day. And so, I’ve taken my daughter, the day before her activity, to the ocean, and have stayed for a night at a friend’s house who lives nearby, before travelling the short jaunt up to her university the next day.
